Community Service

Aiming to create a more politically active and unified Filipino-American community, Wendy is an active member and officer of both the Filipino American Cultural Organization of North San Diego County and the Filipino National Association of San Diego. She also volunteers for the San Diego North County Lions Club. Her outstanding community work has earned her the crown of Mrs. Filipino National of San Diego as well as a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for her outstanding community work from then-Congressman Bob Filner of San Diego’s 51st District.

Armed with only a high school education from Tarlac High School, Wendy first started work dressing up Barbie dolls at Mattel Toys Philippines, earning her marketing degree at night. She then became a conventions coordinator and marketing professional for private clubs and resorts both Manila and Baguio. After settling in California, she joined the guest services team of La Costa Resort and Spa. She later worked as a Global Supply Chain Buyer of a large chemical manufacturing company. Today, she is a California Notary Public and State Licensed Administrator for the Elderly.

Wendy is happily married to the love of her life, Frank Thrower. She is the mother of two young men. Earl (28) is a graduate of University of California Berkeley with a BS degree in Economics working for private accounting management firm in San Jose California and Jerich (26) is a graduate of University of California Santa Cruz with a BA in Language Studies, currently teaching English in Jeju Island, South Korea.
